The artist’s faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses is a clear inspiration for this work. Despite the change of medium from her usual Oil on Canvas, the style resembles her other works from the same decade, such as My Other Self and Resurrection.

Note from Thomas Perez Sr., the artist’s husband: “She was 17 when she drew that in order to apply for a Scholarship to the prestigious School of Visual Arts. Her Dad glued it to a piece of plywood and added a kickstand. She was awarded the Scholarship. We met shortly afterwards.”
